Sacred Dance

Sacred dance has always been more than just beautiful movement on Sunday morning. Most of the sacred dancers have been dancing since they were little or teenagers. The groups have fluctuated over the years. In the past, we have had three dance groups encompassing children, youth and adults. We now have ten dancers, all adults.  There has been a scared dance group at Bow Mills since the 1980's when  Elsie Keeffe brought it to our church. The dance group has turned into something so much more then just a group of women. We support each other when someone has joy and we grieve together and pray when someone needs extra support.

Dance is a feeling. It is a special relationship between the dancer and God. It is a prayer from the dancer’s heart to God’s ears. It is something you can’t explain but you just feel. Dance has helped each and every one of us through difficult losses. We dance at funerals for people that loved dance. We dance at each other’s weddings. Every dancer is different. Some dance with their eyes closed to feel the movement and be in the moment. Others dance to connect with everyone in the congregation. It’s personal. We are not only friends, but we are family. We are the Dancing Soul Sisters.

Dance goes from November until Holy week where we dance at Diamond Hill for a sunrise service.  If you would like to join this special group, please speak to Pastor Virg.  Everyone is welcome.
